A 74-year-old woman has perished in a fire at a Bancroft retirement residence.
Bancroft firefighters were called to the R.J. Brooks Living Centre at 1 Alice Street shortly after
2 o’clock this morning (Thursday).
There was a fire in one of the units, but the extent of the damage is unknown.
The OPP and staff from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating.
All residents have been evacuated from the R.J. Brooks Centre and have been moved to the Bancroft Bible Chapel located on Hastings Street North, next door to the centre.
Investigators are asking at this time to please refrain from attending the R. J. Brooks Centre to check on loved ones, but to attend at the Bancroft Bible Chapel.
