Eight local festivals and events are sharing some cash from the Celebrate Ontario program.
Combined, the eight area events will receive just under $150,000, with the Prince Edward County Festival Players receiving the most at more than $62,000.
The Cultivate food festival in Northumberland County is getting over $31,000 and the Tweed enhanced theatre season and Brighton Applefest are each getting around $14,000.
The PEC Chamber Music Fest and Northumberland Festival of Jazz will each get more than $9,000, Quinte West’s Hops on the Water will receive $5,000 and the Wheels, Water and Wings event in Bancroft gets a little more than $3,000.
A handful of events in Kingston area will also get provincial cash through the program.
Province-wide the government is spending $20 million to support more than 300 events, which it says “help grow our economy and make our tourism industry more competitive”.
