A new dispatch pilot project for ambulances could get underway in the Hastings-Quinte and Northumberland-Peterborough area in about a month.
Paramedic Chief Doug Socha says it’s designed to develop a system to assist when they are responding on the border areas.
This would allow the dispatcher in Kingston to track ambulances dispatched from the Peterborough area and prevent two ambulances being dispatched to the same call.
Socha says the pilot project will measure how effective the new system can be.
Ambulances can be tracked now but double dispatching occurs in some border areas since dispatchers cannot see the location of ambulances outside their areas.
Socha expects the three month pilot project to get underway in April.
