The Binghamton Devils scored three power play goals en route to a 5-1 win over the Belleville Senators Friday night.
Belleville’s lone goal came from Daniel Ciampini while Chris Driedger stopped 48 shots. Mario Lucia (2), Christoph Bertschy, Bracken Kearns and Kevin Rooney scored for the Devils while Ken Appleby turned aside 20 shots.
Bertschy struck first 5:22 into the first as his wrister on the power play from the slot beat Driedger before Lucia notched his first of the night at 14:16 on the man advantage as he gathered a loose puck on the backhand to make it 2-0.
Belleville got back into the game in the second period on Ciampini’s fourth of the year as he collected a loose puck off of a face-off and wristed a shot past Appleby at 4:38.
But Lucia’s second of the night at 9:18 restored the Binghamton lead to two goals before Kearns’ 12th of the year made it 4-1 after he found the puck in his feet after a deflection for the Devils’ third power play goal of the evening.
Rooney made it 5-1 at 9:44 of the third after he deposited his own rebound past Driedger for his 10th of the campaign.
Newly acquired Senators forward Eric Selleck didn’t play but is expected to suit up Saturday night against Laval. Belleville is 4-3 against Binghamton this year with the season finale between the two sides to take place Tuesday at the Yardmen Arena.
Belleville hosts Laval tonight on History of Hockey night where a number of legendary NHL trophies will be on display as well as a look back at key players and teams from the Bay of Quinte. Puck drop is 7 o’clock tonight. Broadcast time on CJBQ is 6:50.
