Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis says the legalization of marijuana is an opportunity.
He spoke on Wednesday morning at the Chamber of Commerce breakfast and said he at first was against the legalization but has since changed his perspective.
He told those in attendance they could bury their heads in the sand in regards to this issue but he says this industry will be bigger than the wine industry.
MP Ellis said by embracing this legalization they are opening the door for research and job opportunities.
He says it comes down to harm reduction.
MP Ellis was asked about the doctor shortage here in the region, with one chamber member stating that it’s almost reaching a crisis state with another three doctors retiring in the near future.
He says it’s something all three levels of government need to work on and it’s something they need to stay on top of.
