Belleville has awarded the contract for a major expansion of its public transit building.
Monday night, city council approved the tender from the only qualified bidder, Gay Company Ltd. out of Courtice, Ontario.
Gay Company’s tender came in at $1.3 million plus HST.
The project involves a 6,000 square foot expansion to the Belleville Transit building at 400 Coleman Street and will allow all buses in the fleet to be stored indoors.
Lighting up Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre
Monday night, Belleville city council accepted a bid from local company, Torbram Electric, to design, supply, and install LED lighting at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre.
Torbram’s bid was the only qualified one, and came in at $477,346 plus HST.
The LED lighting will be installed everywhere but in the Yardmen Arena and in the pool area, where the lighting is already up to date.
New doctor coming
Belleville will have a new doctor in town in little over a year.
Monday night, city council approved the signing of another family doctor under its physician recruitment program.
Mayor Taso Christopher told council the program is “one of the most successful in Ontario.”
Dr. Brittany Dyer is now finishing her residency and will open a family practice in the city in December of 2019.
Belleville has attracted 24 family doctors and three specialists with its recruitment program since 2007.
Dyer will receive $150,000 paid out over six years in return for a commitment to practise in Belleville for at least five years
