The Belleville Senators gave an inspired effort Saturday night in Utica, New York, but ultimately came up on the short end of a 4-3 score to the host Comets.
Belleville rallied from 2-0 down to tie the game early in the second period on goals from Nick Paul and Jim O’Brien, then came back again to knot things up at three-all later in the period thanks to a tally from Max McCormick after Utica took another lead.
Unfortunately for the B-Sens, a Comets goal at 14:23 of the second wound up being the difference. The visitors were only able to muster five shots in period three as their comeback efforts fell just short.
O’Brien and McCormick each added an assist to go along with their goals. Other helpers went to Jordan Murray, Ben Sexton, Maxime Lajoie and Gabriel Gagne.
Danny Taylor stopped 20 Utica shots in the loss.
Sens head coach Kurt Kleinendorst says he’s been satisfied with his team’s preparation and performance lately, including last night, despite their struggles to win.
Next action for Belleville is Wednesday night in Laval, Quebec against the division-rival Rocket. CJBQ is on the air for EasternOverhead Doors and Deerhaven Farm and Garden with coverage starting at 6:50 p.m.
