The Belleville Police Service responded to 33 calls for service between February 6th, 2018 at 5 a.m. and February 7th, 2018 at 5 a.m.
Fraud
On February 6th at approximately 10:48 a.m. police were called to a financial institution in the north-west portion of the city for a report of a man attempting to cash a suspicious cheque. Investigation revealed the item was stolen from a business in northern Ontario and was written out in excess of $5,000. Police also learned the man had outstanding arrest warrants from earlier offenses related to fraud and failing to attend court. Sixty-three-year old Glen Gale Albert Green of Kingston Ontario was arrested and taken into custody. Green faces two charges of fraud over $5,000, failing to attend court, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and uttering a forged document. Green was released on a Promise-to-Appear in Belleville Provincial court next month.
Motor vehicle collisions
Police responded to a total of five motor vehicle collision reports throughout the city. Two of these were reported for minor property damage purposes after the fact. While there were no injuries, a two-vehicle collision was reported at 6:50 p.m. in the area of Moira Street West and Marshall Road. A white Ford truck struck the side of the complainant’s vehicle. The suspect truck was last observed speeding off eastbound on Moira Street West. Damage was minor and there were no injuries. Other disturbances
Police attended to four 911 hangups. Three of these were deemed to have been caller error, or accidental dialings, while another occurred at a pay phone outside a variety store in the east end. A check of this location revealed the phone hanging off the holder. The area was checked. There were no persons found to be in distress or requiring assistance. At 2:57 p.m. police responded to a male and female arguing in the north-west portion of the city. Investigation determined that a man and woman had a minor verbal argument. There were no injuries and no charges to report. All was calm upon police departure.
