Belleville could be losing a long-time vacant property, and gaining a new retirement facility.
According to realtor Jamie Troke, a deal is set to close on a two acre property, site of the old Trudeau Motors property on Station Street. Troke says the former car dealership is a two piece property, separated by Dafoe Street. He says the property in question is the former used car building and body shop, closer to the Cenotaph. The property which housed the new car lot and building is still for sale and not part of this deal.
The realtor says there has been a lot of negotiation with the Toronto area developer, who he cannot name at this time.

He says the deal is set to close at month’s end (January 31st).
The property is zoned for a 120 unit residential retirement facility and the buyer intends to build just that.
There was concern in past years about environmental issues with the site. Troke says the buyer has a record of site condition and will pay for the cleanup. Troke says it will include tearing down buildings and removing any contaminated ground. He says it will cost between $200,000 and $300,000, but adds when you are talking about a project in the tens of millions, it is a small cost.
Troke adds that being along the water, close to downtown and on the bus route, the site will be perfect for a retirement residence.
