Ontario Provincial Police have released the province-wide results from the annual Festive Ride Campaign, which included almost 10,000 check points and there were less impaired drivers charged, compared to last year.
Five hundred eighty-seven drivers were charged with impaired driving between November 24th and January 2nd, compared to 623 during the same period last year.
Of those 587, 29 drivers charged were found to be impaired by drugs, thanks to new tools and expertise to test impairment in that area.
Three hundred sixty-six drivers were issued warn range suspensions, which is also down from 407 during the 2016/17 campaign.
OPP say 44 people died due to alcohol and drug related crashes in 2017 and almost 5,000 people were charged with impaired driving in the last calendar year.
