Jean-Sebastien Dea and Christian Thomas each scored twice as the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins beat the Belleville Sens 6-0 in the team’s first ever match-up.
Wilkes-Barre also had goals from Zach Trotman and Ethan Prow while Casey DeSmith made 24 saves for the shutout. Chris Driedger stopped 30 shots as the Sens were shut out for the third time this season.
Thomas opened the scoring at 7:47 of the first period on his eighth of the year before Trotman doubled the host’s lead 1:57 later.
Dea made it 3-0 with his first of the night as he buried a 2-on-1 after taking Thomas’ pass at 16:22 before the Penguins piled it on in the third period with three more goals.
Dea’s second of the night, and eighth of the year, made it 4-0 on the man advantage at 6:25 before Prow’s first of the season pushed the lead to 5-0 as his shot from the blue line beat Driedger at 13:40.
Thomas’ second goal of the evening came with 3:07 to play to wrap up a comprehensive performance by the hosts.
Belleville failed to convert any of its four power play chances while the Penguins went 1-for-3.
The two teams will square off against Friday night at Wilkes-Barre visits the Yardmen for the only time this season. Belleville is back in action Wednesday night as they host the Rochester Americans.
