The last winter blast of 2017 didn’t blow out Belleville’s snowplowing budget.
Over the past few years Belleville has maintained a snow clearing budget of $2.1 million.
General Manager of Transportation and Operation Services Joe Reid says the budget was sitting at $1.8 million just before the pre-Christmas heavy snowfall.
He says it’s easier on the equipment than last year’s freezing rain.
Reid expects to be under budget by maybe $200,000 when the final figures are in for 2017.
Any remaining funds are put into a special reserve fund for the snow clearing and removal.
