There are some big things on the horizon in Quinte West in the new year.
With some major construction projects and a municipal election coming up, Mayor Jim Harrison says there is lots to look forward to.
Construction on the fire hall is on pace and the needs assessment for the OPP headquarters is nearing completion, with a project manager hired.
But Harrison says one major thing that’s looming over municipalities across the province is the legalization of marijuana and compared it to removing prohibition from alcohol in the 1920s, saying municipalities across Ontario need to take a balanced approach to dealing with the change.
Harrison says Quinte West will likely get requests for either licensed producers, or sellers to set up shop, but the city has to look at it from a business perspective
