Development of an apartment building that could potentially be the site for the Hastings County Home for Good project was given the green light by Belleville’s planning committee Monday night.
The proposal is for a three-storey, 40-unit apartment building on the west side of Sidney Street.
A spokesman for the developer said it is being proposed as a site for a social housing project.
Hastings County will announce the successful bidder on that project on December 19.
Area resident Brian Miller told the committee his main concern is “the type of clients in the building and the kind of problems that arise in low income housing.”
The planning committee will recommend city council approve the project.
Aldersgate expansion planned
Belleville’s planning committee is recommending that city council approve plans for expanding Aldersgate Home on Aldersgate Drive.
The developer presented plans to the committee Monday night to add to the existing residence on the south side of Aldersgate Drive, in the far west end of the city.
That proposal involves a four-unit townhouse and three single-storey 16-unit apartment buildings.
