Highway 401 is getting widened to six lanes in Belleville, and the first public consultation meeting is coming up later this month.
Currently in the design process, consultants, environmentalists and the Ministry of Transportation are working to widen the highway to six lanes, and then eventually eight.
Preliminary design information is going to be available to the public on Thursday, December 14, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Banquet Centre.
The study area is from Wallbridge-Loyalist Road, to about four kilometres east of the Cannifton Road/ Highway 37 overpass.
Work would need to not only happen on the 401, but also the underpasses of Wallbridge-Loyalist, Sidney Street, Highway 62 and Highway 37, the CN overpass, the Moira River bridge and the Potter Creek Culvert.
There is also consideration of construction of a next east exit, near the eastern boundary of the municipality. It would go into the east side of the industrial park.
