Hastings County has recruited its 14th doctor, coming to one of the mid-county townships.
The township of Marmora and Lake now has a family physician.
It was announced at county council Thursday that family doctor Emily Callery has signed on under the Family Physician Recruitment program.
Callery says it’s a homecoming for her, since many generations of her family lived in the Crowe Lake area.
She will be practising family medicine and take some shifts in the emergency department at North Hastings hospital in Bancroft.
Under the scholarship program, Callery will receive $150,000 and agree to stay for five years.
The new doctor is expected to arrive in February.
Reeve of Marmora and Lake Terry Clemens told council it was “a great day for Marmora and Lake, and the doctor will fit well into the rural setting.” He expressed that they hope the same could happen for other Hastings County municipalities that need doctors.
Centre Hastings Reeve Tom Deline said, “it is great to attract young people back to the county.”
