Belleville Councillors were able to slash some money off the 2018 capital budget, during day two of budget debate this morning, including some good news from police services and a cut from washrooms at the Memorial Arena.
Deputy Chief Mike Callahan told council the police budget has been cut by 14.7% and that could go up to a 28% cut if casino revenues are allotted to the policing budget.
There was also extensive debate over a proposed $250,000 expenditure on public washrooms at the Memorial Arena, with some councillors expressing concern about spending that much on the building, which could be sold in the future.
That money was deleted from the budget by a six-to-three vote.
We’ll have more details from today’s budget discussions later this afternoon.
