During Belleville’ capital budget debate Tuesday, city council cut $300,000 proposed for dock work at Meyers Pier. It was deferred to 2019.
Director of Recreation Mark Fluhrer told council two of the docks were from the 1980s. He said, “A dock from the 1980s doesn’t cut the mustard when it comes to today’s standards.”
Fluhrer is expected to bring a detailed plan for the future of Meyers Pier to the operating budget in April.
Studying signals at QSWC
Council approved $100,000 for a study on putting traffic signals at the north entrance to the Quinte Sport and Wellness Centre. Fluhrer said the study would look at all kinds of traffic issues, including pedestrian and cycle use.
Fluhrer said he wanted to increase opportunities for those without cars to take advantage of the Quinte Sport and Wellness Centre.
Cutting light display $$$
Council cut 30,000 from proposed for the Meyers Pier light display. Councillors indicated $400,000 had already been spent on the display.
Pedestrian crossing at Parkdale Road
A pedestrian crossing on Sidney Street at Parkdale Road was originally proposed for Lavallee Square, but it was moved to Parkdale after feedback from the public.
Councillor Garnet Thompson said people in the area told the traffic advisory committee students currently crossing at Parkdale Road would not walk down to Lavallee to cross.
