It was a challenging year, but a good one for the Belleville Agricultural Society. The Society held its annual volunteer appreciation banquet at Boston Pizza yesterday (Sunday).
Society President Rick Caddick said it was a challenge and learning experience moving the livestock exhibitions over to the west side of the fairgrounds for the Quinte Exhibition but they did it.
Meanwhile, he says the best part of the fair this year was the Terrific Thursday event which was held before the fair opened and was especially for children with special needs. Over 200 children rode the rides and enjoyed other activities in the midway with the assistance of the Belleville Fire Department and other organizations.
On another subject, Caddick said progress was being made toward an agreement between the Society and the City of Belleville for a relocation of the exhibition so the current fairgrounds property could be used for development. “However, it’s going to take a little time before everything is settled,” said Caddick.
Belleville Councillor Mitch Panciuk echoed Caddick’s remarks, saying a deal would be a “win-win” situation.
At the banquet, the Society honoured new volunteers Marianne Scott, Jill Moralee, and Olivia Mortimer.
The 4-H award was given to Donnie Jarrell, as were the Honorary Life Director and Past President’s Award.
Bonnie and David Conley were given the Kelly Caddick Memorial Award and the President’s Award went to Carl Huffman.
