A Napanee couple, who lost their child in a tragic accident, do not want to see another family go through their heartbreak.
On Wednesday afternoon at Queen’s Park, Prince Edward Hastings MPP Todd Smith introduced the Garrett Legacy Act.
By his side was David Mills (Buzz Collins of Rock 107) and his wife Gwen, who lost their 15 year old son Garrett May 12.
Garrett was playing on a soccer net May 12, at the King Street Park in Napanee, when the goal post toppled on him, killing him instantly.
Garrett’s father, David Mills, known as Buzz Collins on Rock 107, says he never thought he and his wife would become spokespeople for such a random issue.
Mills say they want to take their son’s passing and turn a tragedy into a positive.
The will go to debate on December 7 at Queen’s Park.
MPP Smith introduced the bill in the legislature with the support of Kingston Liberal member Sophie Kiwala.
He spoke with Quinte News about the bill, what it requires of municipalities, and the fines involved.
