Brighton Library Board Chair Bob Burke says the work planned for the library will bring them into the 21st century.
Council voted to give the project to Jeffrey G. Wallans Construction at a cost of almost $1.1 million.
Mayor Mark Walas says the renovations will take place within the current footprint of the building.
According to Mayor Walas, there has never been an update to the library or the administration building.
Councillor John Martinello wanted to defer the motion until they received more information.
CAO Bill Watson advised council if they delayed the decision they may have to re-tender.
