Belleville has a number of bridge rehabilitation projects in its sights, as it gets ready to sit down and deliberate on its 2018 capital budget.
Near the top of the list is the Catherine Street pedestrian bridge, over the Moira River in the city centre, at a cost of $2.5 million.
It was deferred last year to allow time to complete the design.
The staff report, in the budget agenda, indicates that “the existing structure is deteriorating and may have to be closed for safety reasons, if action is not taken.”

Plans for a new bridge call for a wider structure which can accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and light service vehicles.
The staff report indicates that if the project doesn’t go ahead in 2018, the bridge would have to be closed for safety reasons.
The two days of capital budget discussions begin Tuesday, February 28.
