The following is a release from MP Mike Bossio.
Mike Bossio, the Member of Parliament for Hastings—Lennox and Addington, toured the Tweed Arena this week to see the impact that recent federal investments are making.
Earlier this year, Bossio announced $118,250 to improve energy efficiency at the arena as part of the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, which is investing $300 million to retrofit and improve existing community infrastructure assets and facilities across the country.
“Without the grant, we wouldn’t have been able to go forward,” said Rachelle Hardesty, Manager of Community Development, Parks and Recreation for the Municipality of Tweed. The work includes a lighting retrofit and replacing old ice compressors. “Our compressors are at least 30 years old. We don’t really know how old they are because they were hand-me-downs,” Hardesty explained.
Eligibility for the funding included the extent to which projects supported a clean growth economy. The improvements are estimated to save Tweed approximately 108,000 kW of energy and $12,000 each year in hydro costs.
