The third quarter of this year was a fair bit quieter for the Belleville Police Service.
In July, August and September there were a total of 1,553 crimes reported in Belleville.
During the same months last year, officers dealt with 2,014 crimes.
Meantime, the number of break and enters in the city was down as well in this year’s third quarter, totaling 44.
In July, August and September of last year, there were 64 break and enters.
Meanwhile, there was a shocking increase in the number of sex-related crimes in Belleville during the third quarter of this year when compared to the same period last year.
However, just one case made the difference.
In July, August and September Belleville police officers dealt with 308 sex-related offences.
Last year in those same months there were just 19.
The reason for the huge increase this year was the late Dr. Garry Solomon voyeurism case in which there were over 300 victims involved.
And, the number of domestic disturbances in Belleville in the third quarter of this year is down significantly.
In July, August and September there were 95 domestic incidents. In the same period last year, officers dealt with 120 domestics, a decrease of 20%.
Meanwhile, 70 individuals went missing in Belleville in the third quarter of this year. Five of those were under the age of 12.
All of the people were located.
