It will still be a year before the Brighton Fire Department has a new rescue truck in their fleet, but it is finally happening.
Brighton council unanimously approved the motion on Monday night to approve the purchase of the truck at a cost of $338,000.
Fire Chief Lloyd Hutchison says the new truck will replace the current rescue truck which will be over 25 years old when it’s taken out of service. He says the new truck offers a number of benefits.
Chief Hutchison says the new rescue is expected to have a 25-plus year lifespan.
Councillor Brian Ostrander asked Chief Hutchison to explain his choice in going with the Res Q Tech Inc. truck.
The fire chief explained Res Q Tech nailed exactly what they were looking for as they had specific height and length concerns that needed to be addressed.
Chief Hutchison said it will be at least 12 months before they get the new rescue truck as it will take time to build the truck to meet their needs.
