Brighton Council’s regular meeting came to an abrupt end last night, after a motion to extend it failed, because of a split vote.
Mayor Mark Walas made the motion at 9:30 p.m. following the three-hour time limit, and councillors Ostrander, Martinello and McMurray all voted against it, while the mayor and councillors Vink and Tadman were in favour, tying the vote at three.
The mayor tells Quinte News councillors have passed the motion to extend numerous times in the past and called the vote last night embarrassing and politically motivated.
Concillor Ostrander’s reason to vote against was that he feels “good decisions aren’t made” during extended meetings.
Since the meeting was called off, all discussion about the town’s wastewater treatment plant and other topics, will be deferred to an upcoming meeting.
