More information and advice is coming to Brighton council about its beleaguered sewage treatment system tonight.
Council will see one report suggesting water/sewer bills in urban Brighton could go up by 39% by 2020 if council were build a mechanical sewage treatment plant at an estimated cost of 20 to 25 million dollars.
Another report written by Brighton CAO Bill Watson describes a situation where “it’s when, not if a mechanical plant is needed”.
Watson suggests council go with a temporary upgrade to rectify ammonia level issues while studying population growth and capacity issues over the next while to plan for the construction of a mechanical plant.
The CAO stresses Brighton has more than enough sewage treatment capacity for the next few years.
Brighton council meets tonight at 6:30 at King Edward Park Community Centre.
