Belleville Senators’ Head Coach Kurt Kleinendorst put it simply “that was not our best hockey”.
The B-Sens dropped a 6-1 decision to the Charlotte Checkers Friday night, in the first half of a weekend double-header, giving up three goals in a four minute stretch of the first period.
Belleville also allowed two goals in the second period and one in the third period and were out shot 40-29.
Kleinendorst told reporters he wasn’t going to overreact to the loss, but feels like the team may have had a bit of a letdown, following their home opening win against Syracuse on Wednesday night.
The coach says his team has had a consistent run of good play lately and Friday’s effort doesn’t show that.
He adds the team needs to be better in all areas of the game, especially against a fast, puck-moving team like Charlotte.
Belleville forward Jim O’Brien (2nd) had the B-Sens’ only goal and is looking forward to getting another crack at the Checkers on Saturday.
Nick Schilkey (3rd), Andrew Poturalski (3rd), Phil Di Giuseppe (3rd), Warren Foegele (6th), Valentin Zykov (6th) and Andrew Miller (4th) all found the net for Charlotte.
B-Sens’ netminder Andrew Hammond replaced Danny Taylor to start the third period and Kleinendorst says Hammond will get the start on Saturday.
Gametime at the Yardmen Arena is 7 p.m., with a 6:50 p.m. pregame show on 800 CJBQ.
