A local woman has been sentenced for stealing more than $75,000 from a local transportation company.
Quinte News has obtained court documents which show 53 year old Joann Stans took money from Ontario Coachway, over the course of four years.
A source within the company (who asked not to be named), tells Quinte News Stans oversaw credit and debit transactions.
She says Stans’ responsibilities included booking trips for customers and charging their cards. She was also in charge of providing refunds to cards.
Court documents show between May 2011 and April 2015, Stans defrauded the company. Our source says Stans would provide refunds to her own credit cards. She says it began with about a refund a month and by the end, she was doing it several times a month.
The company source says she believes it could be upwards of $80,000 taken from Ontario Coachway.
Earlier this month Stans plead guilty to fraud. Justice Elaine Deluzio sentenced her to an 18 month conditional sentence, 18 months probation and a $75,000 compensation order. As part of the sentence, Stans must perform 240 hours community service.
