The progressive conservative energy critic and local MPP is reacting to a scathing Auditor General’s report yesterday, which says the Liberals are “improperly accounting for the $26 billion in debt the province is taking on, to cut hydro bills in the short term.”
Prince Edward-Hastings MPP Todd Smith agrees with Bonnie Lysyk that “the government is making up its own accounting methods,” by hiding the amount of money it is borrowing from Ontario Power Generation.
Smith says the Liberals wanted to make what looked like a positive move ahead of next spring’s election, but if his party is elected next year, they would handle things differently.
He says “whether you like the plan or not, the way it has been financed is very wrong,” the government has been untrustworthy in handling the whole situation.
