And a new era begins.
One year after the announcement that Belleville would become the new home of Ottawa’s American Hockey League affilliate, the B-Sens played their first game. So far so good even though it was exhibition.
Nineteen year old defenceman Maxime Lajoie scored a goal and an assist to lead Belleville to a 3-1 victory over the Laval Rockets. (Montreal Canadiens).
Belleville overcame a slow start while falling behind 3:28 into the game but veteran goaltender Danny Taylor shut the door the rest of the way stopping 21 shots.
Taylor says it’s good to get familiarized with his teammates before the regular season gets underway.
Head Coach Kurt Kleinendorst says that getting into game action was a good stepping stone for his team.
Jim O’Brien scored the winner at 15:20 of the second period. Filip Chlapik iced the win with an empty net goal at 19:52 of the third.
Belleville and Laval meet again Sunday afternoon. CJBQ’s broadcast begins at 2:45.
