Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPĀ Mike Bossio called it an honour to welcome the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs to the area Friday.
The committee was finishing off a week-long, cross-country trip, studying various Indigenous land claims and understanding their impact and importance to Indigenous communities.
The morning session was held in Belleville and featured a panel discussion from various Indigenous leaders and organizations, who shared their experiences and concerns with the process, while the afternoon session included a visit to the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory to meet with the band council.
That discussion centred around longstanding land claim issues on the territory and how they have affected its residents and the surrounding area as well.
The committee will continue to study all of the information it gathered this week into the fall and is still taking comments.
Anyone who wants to comment on the study can submit a brief or comment through the committee website.
