Enrolment numbers in the Hastings and Prince Edward School Board came in higher than expected for elementary students, but lower than expected for secondary students.
As of September 15th, 10,285 students were enrolled in the board, which is 167 more students than last year and 55 more than expected.
Meanwhile at the secondary level, there was an average daily enrolment of 4,587, which is 112 less than expected and 132 less than last year.
Director of Education Mandy Savery-Whiteway tells Quinte News, the higher elementary number should help to boost the secondary number in the years ahead.
As far as the drop in secondary school enrolment, Savery-Whiteway says the key is that that elementary student enrolment in the past had been lower and those students are now moving through the system.
