Registrations have been taken for about a week already, but organizers of the annual Adopt a Child/Keep Kids Warm Campaign officially kicked things off Tuesday at the Children’s Safety Village.
For the past 30 years the program has collected donations of cash and winter clothing to make sure kids in need, 12 and under, in the Quinte Region can stay warm through the winter.
Belleville Detective Sergeant Ann Earle says the key to keeping the program running for three decades has been the incredible community support.
Earle adds, when the program started in 1987, there were just 117 kids who needed warm winter clothing, but that need has grown substantially over the years.
If you’re interested in signing up your child, you can visit one of the following locations:
Belleville – Children’s Safety Village – 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (Registration until 6:00 p.m. on Sept. 21 and Sept. 28)
Stirling-Rawdon – SRPS Headquarters – 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (Closed 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. for lunch)
Prince Edward County – Picton Youth Centre – 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
Centre Hastings – Central Hastings OPP Headquarters – 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
Pick up dates for those who have applied will be on November 6th, 7th and 8th, at the Belleville Police Service west garage door, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., or at the location where you registered.
Donations can be made by either dropping off new winter clothing, by cash, or by credit card.
