Kwik Kopy Printing – Minor Atom
The Kwik Kopy Printing minor atoms started the season at home vs the Oshawa Generals Saturday September 16th. It was a slow first period until Ryland Cunningham scored the games first goal from Jack Foley and Tavin MacDonald. Owen Rivers gave the Devils a two-goal lead 5 minutes into the second with assists from Kaden Koutroulides and Cooper Kelly. Late in the frame Foley gave the Devils some breathing room on a goal assisted by MacDonald and Cunningham. Oshawa was needing a big third period and eventually snuck one past Nowl Wallace late in the game. It wasn’t enough though as Cunningham sealed the 4-1 win scoring an empty netter from Connor Fetterley and Foley. It was a complete team effort and a great start to the season.
There wasn’t much time to celebrate as the OMHA defending champion, Central Ontario Wolves were coming to Deseronto for a Sunday afternoon home game. The Devils came to the rink focused and ready and the first period ended in a scoreless tie. The game was back and forth and continued scoreless until Rivers picked off a pass that sent him on a breakaway. He made no mistake wiring a shot off the post and in to give the Devils the lead and that’s how the second period would end. The Devils knew the Wolves, an explosive offensive team would be pressing in the third, and after a quick chat from coach Foley were up to the task. After missing some opportunities, the Devils were prepared to do what it took to defend the one goal lead. Goaltender Nowl Wallace couldn’t be beat, earning his first shut out of the season and helping the Devils secure a huge 1-0 victory.
On Deck: The Devils hit the road Friday September 22nd to play the Clarington Toros.
