Golden Hawks claim first win of the season
The veteran offensive guns came out to play for the Trenton Golden Hawks and they were rewarded with a 6-4 victory over the Whitby Fury.
Captain Mac Lewis and Rex Moe each scored twice, while Michael Silveri and Caleb Boman added single tallies.
Silveri, Brandon Marinelli and Max Ewart added two assists each and Lewis, Cal Walker, Gage Stephney, Jake Behse and Zach Senecal contributed single helpers.
Four of Trenton’s six goals came on specialty teams (three powerplay goals, one shorthanded)
Carson Poulin’s 29 saves was good enough to earn him his first win as a Golden Hawk.
Final shots favoured Trenton 37-33.
The G-Hawks will head to Buffalo next week for the Governor’s Showcase, playing North York Wednesday afternoon and Milton Thursday afternoon.
Dukes fight back after shaky start, falls in double overtime
The Wellington Dukes resilient effort was enough to earn them a single point, but not the win, as they fell 5-4 in double overtime in their home opener to the Kingston Voyageurs.
The Dukes were down 4-1 after one period, but following a goaltending change from Creed Jones to Pierce Nelson, the Dukes received a spark and tied the game with three straight second period markers.
Jackson Arcan and Eric Uba each recorded a goal and an assist, while Jeffrey Burridge and Eric Uba added single goals.
Keegan Ferguson assisted twice and Declan Carlile, Alec Tiley, Zach Uens and Nelson Powers drew one assist each.
Jones made just six saves on 10 shots and Nelson blocked 25 of 26 shots.
Final shots favoured Wellington 41-36.
The Dukes are in Markham at 1:30 p.m. for a Sunday matinee affair.
Raiders drop season opener to Port Hope
Four third period goals did the Napanee Raiders in their Jr. C season opener Friday night in a 5-1 loss to the Port Hope Panthers.
Riley Steeves scored Napanee’s only goal late, assisted by Justynn Steven and Riley Manion.
Jeremy Piazzi stopped 29 of 34 shots in the loss in goal.
The Raiders visit Gananoque Sunday night.
