Local emergency responders, politicians and members of the public remember the attacks on the World Trade Centre 16 years on September 11, 2001 at a brief ceremony Monday morning.
A moment of silence was held and Padre Blair Ross recited the prayers of the three emergency response groups, firefighters, police, and paramedics.
The ceremony was held at Belleville Fire Headquarters on Bettes Street, at Station Street at 8:45 a.m.
Nearly 3,000 people died when four planes were hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists. Two were crashed into World Trade Centre towers, another into the Pentagon, while another crashed into a field.
The massive emergency services response ended with 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and 8 paramedics being killed.
