The 16-year-old Belleville teen charged with manslaughter in connection to a fatal Highway 401 crash near Cannifton Road has been remanded back into custody until next week.
The youth who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared for a show cause hearing at the Quinte Consolidated Courthouse Friday afternoon.
Assistant Crown Attorney Lynn Ross and the youth’s lawyer requested a complete publication ban be placed on the case.
On Sunday August 27 at 1:20 a.m., Napanee OPP, Belleville police and emergency response crews attended the crash involving two vehicles.
A 30-year-old Loyalist Township woman was killed and a 30-year-old Dryden man remains in hospital with serious injuries after their eastbound Subaru was struck by a pickup truck that OPP said was travelling in the wrong direction.
The accused suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and along with manslaughter he is also charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm and theft of a vehicle over $5000.
He returns to youth court on Tuesday.
