A number of major issues will come before Belleville city council at its “strategy session” this week.
Councillors will be considering what areas the city should be looking at for the years ahead – what the focus should be as the city grows, or what more immediate issues need to be addressed.
Earlier this summer, Councillor Paul Carr raised some issues including how the city can recover some of its investment in the downtown revitalization.
He says, now that the city has invested in the downtown infrastructure, it should get more businesses and residences in the downtown to get a return on that investment.
Carr is also interested in having private investment in the city’s tourism strategy, and gaining community input on long-term strategy by having a community survey.
A concern mentioned by Councillor Mitch Panciuk is the future residential development of the former fairgrounds that the city owns.
He says money would have to be spent on sewage and water services further up Sidney Street.
And, earlier this year also, Councillor Jack Miller indicated he wants a discussion on the future of the city’s two marinas.
A staff report had predicted a loss of more than $60,000 from the city’s operation of the marinas at Victoria Harbour and Meyers Pier.
The strategy session begins Wednesday morning at the River Inn, Corbyville.
