Belleville’s Cindy Nelles and the Canadian Womens’ Rugby squad will play Australia for fifth place when the World Championships wrap up in Ireland on Saturday.
Nelles scored a tri in Canada’s 52-0 romp over Wales yesterday. Canada has only lost one of four games however it came against 4 time champion New Zealand which knocked them out of the medal round.
New Zealand will play England for gold. France and the U.S. will meet for bronze.
In Calgary Ontario’s Girls Under 16 Rugby team has won the gold medal at the Canadian Rugby Championship. Ontario defeated British Columbia 27-10 in the final.
Belleville Bulldogs’ Addison Walker, Amy Dirk and Maddison Horvath were part of that championship squad along with Melanie Hurst Feasby of Moira Secondary School and Kennedy Feasby of the Oshawa Vikings. Kennedy is the daughter of former Belleville Bulls defenceman Scott Feasby.
