Belleville’s delegation heads to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario in Ottawa this weekend, with a number of issues to discuss with provincial cabinet ministers.
The AMO conference runs from August 13 to 16 at the Shaw Convention Centre.
Belleville Mayor Taso Christopher tells Quinte News the city has applied to meet with a number of ministers or their representatives about a list of issues and to give officials an update on a number of projects for which the city has received provincial funding.
He did not go into detail but says the the appointments include the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Ministry of Tourism. He expects there will be discussions on infrastructure as well.
Christopher says Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca will provide an update on plans for expanding Highway 401 to three lanes in this area.
The formal process has begun and plans are underway to complete an environmental assessment.
Councillor Mitch Panciuk, also a delegate, says the Belleville contingent will meet with Ministry of Energy officials to discuss the possibility of having Hydro One customers in Belleville join the Veridian service.
Councillor Egerton Boyce is also expected to attend the conference.
