The cause of the inferno that tore through a house on Rednersville Road Monday night, displacing two families, has been deemed undetermined.
Multiple fire crews rushed to 1730 County Road 3 in Carrying Place around 9 p.m., to find the older two-storey structure completely engulfed in flames.
Deputy Fire Chief Robert Rutter told Quinte News the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office wrapped up its investigation late Tuesday and the cause of the fire that left upwards of $400,000 in damages will be classified as undetermined.
Rutter said fire officials can confirm the blaze began in the garage.
He added thankfully everyone escaped the fire but tragically five cats and a dog died in the fire.
In the wake of the destruction left by the fire, the community is rallying to help the two families displaced by Monday’s fire. Two separate Go Fund Me accounts have been set up asking for community support, and can be accessed by clicking the links below.
Lynne Lightfoot and Jim Powell suffered the loss of their home and business – L&J’s Lunch Box in the blaze.
In the Go Fund Me page a friend wrote: “For many of us they have been a part of our family and lives for many years. They have been more than a brother and sister to me. They opened their home to people as well as their hearts! They are both tremendous people who would drop what they were doing to help someone. I am setting up this fund to help them both get some necessities and hopefully recover from this tragedy. I hope we can raise money quickly to help them.”
They rented an apartment to Janet Pigden who also escaped the fire with only the clothes on her back. Tragically it was her pets that did not escape the fire.
