Politicians and staff in Stirling-Rawdon aren’t giving up their efforts to convince the provincial government to assume responsibility for Highway 14, which runs from Marmora to Foxboro, with most of it being in Stirling-Rawdon.
The highway’s maintenance was downloaded to the municipality years ago, and its upkeep is seen as far too costly for local ratepayers to bear alone.
New traffic counts show close to 6,000 vehicles a day use Highway 14 through Stirling-Rawdon, and Mayor Rodney Cooney calls it an “economic driver” for the whole region.
Council is pushing for a face to face meeting involving local MPP Todd Smith and the provincial Minister of Transportation.
