Belleville’s police chief is taking a unique working vacation later this month.
Ron Gignac will join members of the HMCS Ottawa for an eight-day tour, starting July 27th, as it returns to British Columbia, from an operation in Asia.
Gignac tells Quinte News, it’s an excellent opportunity to go back to his military routes and connect with members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The exercise, called “Tiger Cruise” is also a chance for crew members on the ship to spend some time with their families, including the chief’s daughter Lieutenant (Navy) Jackelyn Buss, to learn more about their experiences and jobs while on deployment.
Gignac says his daughter’s crew has been on a five-month deployment with stops in Signapore, the Korea Penninsula, China and Japan, as the Canadian Navy keeps a presence in that part of the world.
During his trip, Deputy Chief Mike Callahan has been appointed Acting Chief.
