A 57 year-old woman from Tamworth, near Napanee, has been convicted of animal cruelty charges.
Sandra Whitton pleaded guilty in Napanee Court last week and was fined $250 for leaving her nine year-old dog in a hot car.
An OSPCA officer responded to the call in Downtown Napanee on May 12th, where the small Shih Tzu-type dog was in visible distress, panting heavily and trying to find shade under the car’s seats.
The officer couldn’t locate the dog’s owner, so broke into the vehicle and rescued the dog, which did survive.
Pet owners are reminded to never leave their animals in the car while they’re out and if you’re going somewhere animals aren’t allowed, leave your pet at home.
