Two rugby players from Belleville have been named to Canada’s national women’s team, for next month’s Rugby World Cup, being held in Ireland.
Cindy Nelles joins a group of 18 players who are returning from the 2014 tournament, where Canada won a silver medal.
The team also includes 10 rookies, who will make their World Cup debuts with Team Canada, which is ranked third in the world.
Meanwhile, Sara Svoboda has been named to the team’s non-travelling reserve squad and could make an appearance at the tournament if there are any injuries.
Canada opens the World Cup against Hong Kong on August 9, with matches against Wales on August 13 and New Zealand on August 17.
All three of those pool matches, the semi-finals and final will be televised nationally on TSN.
