Concerns have been mounting within a company with major local ties.
On Thursday, Sears Canada filed for credit protection, while they restructure the company.
Retail expert John Marino of Marino Locations Limited talked to the Lorne Brooker Show and says the company has been selling off portions of the company.
Marino adds that there could still be a future for Sears Canada.
Not only does Belleville have a retail location for Sears Canada, but the major warehouse location on College Street East.
The company says it plans to close 20 full-line locations, plus 15 Sears Home stores, 10 Sears Outlet stores and 14 Sears Hometown locations.
While it seems employees at Belleville’s Sears store at the Quinte Mall and warehouse are safe for now, the company plans to shut Sears Home Outlets in Kingston, Scarborough, Woodbridge and Orangeville, among others.
