The new $22.5 million Quinte West Consolidated Public Works Facility officially opened its doors this week.
On Monday, Mayor Jim Harrison and council received a tour of the 90,000 square foot site at 177 North Murray Street. The new building features a wash-bay facility for all of the equipment, staff amenity areas, sand/salt structure and outdoor storage.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison said he is pleased to see the state-of-the-art facility complete as he put the need to consolidate the public works facility on the table in 1999.
The new space will be home to 130 public works employees including roads, parks and water and sewer operations staff.
Harrison said they will likely have a grand opening in September.
Meanwhile, work is still underway to have the former public works site at 30 Pelham Street re-purposed to house Quinte Access, Quinte Waste Solutions and the Trenton Food Bank.
