A fundraising event where the community joins in the fight against cancer gets underway this Friday in Picton.
The annual Relay For Life event raises money for cancer research and local support programs.
Canadian Cancer Society Community Fundraising Specialist Co-ordinator Lola McMurter said this year they are hoping to raise the same amount as last year – $75,000.
McMurter said the community can still sign up. Currently they have 13 teams with 87 people ready to participate.
The event gets underway at the the Picton Fairgrounds at 6 p.m. with the survivor lap. There will be a BBQ and live entertainment. The luminaria ceremony is at 10 p.m. and closing ceremonies are at 11:30 p.m.
