A resident from just north of Madoc is praising an OPP officer who showed some concern for local wildlife yesterday.
Queensborough resident Judith Best tells Quinte News, she and her husband were driving on Highway 7 yesterday afternoon when they saw flashing lights and thought there had been an accident or a detour.
Best says an officer had stopped traffic to allow a citizen to help a turtle get across the road and avoid being hit by traffic.
Most turtles, especially the endangered Blandings Turtle, tend to be more visible during the spring foraging season and the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre is reminding drivers to be aware of the animals.
The OTCC says since turtles tend to move slowly across roadways, hitting them can be avoided, by just looking ahead and driving at a reasonable speed.
